Special Collections has several of English engraver and natural historian Thomas Bewick’s original wood blocks, shown here (right) with an 1818 edition of the Fables of Aesop, and others. Block is illustration for Caesar and the Slave. The Aesop dedicatory page, left, is authenticated by the Bewick “thumb-print receipt” and the sprigs of red seaweed. Book is bound in red morocco and gilt.
