Changes coming to ProQuest Ebook Central

Starting July 23, ProQuest Ebook Central is changing formats for offline reading of ebooks they supply. Users will no longer be required to download Adobe Digital Editions, but instead will need to download ProQuest’s own Ebook Central companion app.

What does this mean? If you mainly read ProQuest Ebooks online, through the web reader, you won’t see many differences. Chapters will still download in PDF format, and printing functions will stay the same. If you download ebooks to a device to read offline, using an account you set up on ProQuest Ebook Central, you will need to install the new app.

As always, as the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy advises – DON’T PANIC.

Below is the message from Proquest as well as some links for getting started with the new app.

The Ebook Central Reader App is a modern companion to the Ebook Central platform, replacing Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) for full-book downloads. Users will continue to search, browse, read online, and manage their bookshelves using the familiar Ebook Central web interface.

What to Expect:

  • Users will need to install the Ebook Central Reader App on their device(s) – up to six per user.
  • All active loans will seamlessly sync to the new app, so users won’t lose access to current downloads.
