IMPORTANT USER NOTICE!
Colby Libraries has implemented LibKey, a suite of products that increase your speed and ease of access to scholarly articles.
To take advantage of Colby’s new LibKey access platform, you’ll need to install the LibKey Nomad browser extension. Download LibKey Nomad
About LibKey Nomad
LibKey Nomad enables easy remote access to library-licensed and open access full text articles. Having LibKey Nomad helps you spend less time navigating publisher platforms and more time actually reading and using scholarly materials.
LibKey Nomad uses a browser extension for Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Edge browsers. It is not compatible with mobile or tablet browsers.
- To get started: Download the extension for your internet browser: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.
- Select “Colby College” as your organization. Why You Need LibKey Nomad
Many publisher and journal websites do not automatically recognize your Colby affiliation. LibKey Nomad bridges that gap by:
- Detecting when Colby Libraries has licensed full text
- Providing one-click access without requiring repeated log-ins
- Reducing dead ends caused by paywalls
- Connecting you to interlibrary loan options when full text is not available
How LibKey Nomad Works
When you visit a webpage that offers access to a scholarly article, LibKey Nomad displays a small green flame icon. If Colby has access, the icon links you directly to the full text.
Example: Publisher Websites
On platforms such as SpringerLink, Elsevier, or Wiley, the LibKey Nomad button appears in the corner of the page and takes you straight to the PDF or article.
If the article is not available through Colby Libraries, the button will display “Access Options.” Selecting it opens the Colby Libraries catalog, where you can request the item through interlibrary loan or other available services.
