Now Live: Faster, Smarter Access to Research Articles

The New Year brings a new way to research at Colby! We are excited to announce that the implementation of Article Galaxy Scholar and LibKey is officially complete.

Why the Change? For years, libraries have relied on “Big Deal” bundles—bulk-buying thousands of journals to get the few we actually need. These costs have become unsustainable. By transitioning to a targeted, demand-driven model, we can continue to provide access to 100% of the content from major publishers Elsevier and Springer, but in a way that is fiscally responsible and focused on our community’s actual needs.

What’s New for You?

  1. Speed: Article Galaxy Scholar (AGS) provides on-demand access to articles we don’t subscribe to directly. Instead of waiting for a manual request, the system automates the delivery, often providing a PDF in just five seconds.
  2. Simplicity: LibKey technology is now integrated into our search tools, meaning fewer “dead ends” and a much smoother path to the full text.
  3. Comprehensive Results: Your LibrarySearch results will now default to “Expanded,” showing you everything available in the scholarly record. You can still use filters to narrow your search to “Available in the Library” at any time.

Get Help & Give Feedback We know that changes to research tools can take a moment to get used to. We are hosting two drop-in Q&A sessions in Miller 208 with snacks and beverages provided. Drop in at any time:
