Open Education Week is here!

Open Education Week banner and logo

Open Education Week (OEWeek) is an annual celebration and opportunity for those working in open Education to actively share their achievements and learn about what others are achieving worldwide. Open Education encompasses resources, tools and practices that are free of legal, financial and technical barriers and can be fully used, shared and adapted in the digital environment (SPARC). Colby Libraries are proud supporters of Open Education and its goals of a more accessible and equitable educational landscape.

OEWeek was launched in 2012 by Open Education Global as a collaborative, community-built open forum. Every year, OEWeek raises awareness and highlights innovative open education successes worldwide. OEWeek provides practitioners, educators, and students with an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of open educational practices and be inspired by the wonderful work being developed by the community around the world. You can follow events happening worldwide on social media with the hashtags #OEWeek25 and #OEWeek.

Here at Colby, in celebration and recognition of Open Education Week, we’re pleased to announce the launch of our new Open Education guide, which provides an overview of Open Education, including information and resources related to open access, open data, open educational resources, and open pedagogy. You can also learn more about how Colby Libraries is supporting the open movement, financially and otherwise. We’re proud to support open publishing initiatives, like Lever Press, MIT Press D20, Open Book Collective, Open Library of the Humanities, and many more!

On Friday, April 11th, the Libraries will host a one-day faculty workshop for instructors interested in exploring Open Education with a small, collaborative group of like-minded faculty peers and librarians. This paid opportunity will require a brief application – keep an eye out for more details coming soon in ColbyNow!
