Use ebooks through the library? If you assign, reference, or use page numbers in academic ebooks, there’s an important change coming that could affect how students and colleagues access assigned readings.

Starting May 1, 2025Ebook Central— a library based platform for accessing thousands of academic ebooks—will begin prioritizing EPUB files as the default display format instead of PDFs. This change, part of ProQuest’s “EPUB Preferred” initiative, aims to improve accessibility and create a more flexible, user-friendly reading experience, especially for those using assistive technologies.

Why this matters:
Unlike PDFs, EPUBs automatically adjust to screen size and user preferences, which enhances usability but may affect pagination consistency. If you’ve assigned or been assigned a specific page range in an Ebook Central title, please double-check the ebook directly to ensure the page numbers still align.

What is Ebook Central?
Ebook Central (formerly Ebrary) is a major academic ebook platform provided by ProQuest. It offers access to a wide range of scholarly books across disciplines and is fully integrated into our library catalog for convenient discovery and use.

You can access the platform here:
